HOUSE Housing Organizations United Serving Evansville

Convening since 2014

Evansville needs 3,000 more affordable housing units.

HOUSE is the monthly meeting where the people who build, fund, inspect, and fill them sit down together.

What we are

The whole thing runs on attendance.

HOUSE is not incorporated and has no staff or budget. What it has is a standing monthly meeting where local government, nonprofit developers, lenders, and service providers keep each other current on what is actually happening in Evansville's housing stock.

Inform

Everyone leaves knowing more than they came with

Program changes, funding rounds, code updates, and project milestones get shared in the room before they show up in a press release.

Connect

Introductions that would not happen otherwise

A developer with a gap in the stack and a lender with a CRA target are frequently in the same room and did not previously know it.

Advocate

One response instead of nine letters

When state or federal policy shifts, HOUSE members coordinate a shared response rather than sending nine separate letters.

Who is in the room

Nine kinds of organization at one table.

A single vacant duplex can be a code case and a financing problem at the same time, so the attendance list is broad on purpose.

Twice a year

Prosperity Indiana regional meetings

HOUSE hosts Prosperity Indiana in Evansville a couple of times a year. Practitioners get state and federal community development policy updates, and Prosperity gets a read on conditions here.

Next Prosperity convening

Dates are announced through the HOUSE mailing list first. Registration typically opens three to four weeks out.

Meetings

Agendas and notes

HOUSE meets monthly. Agendas go out to the mailing list the week before, and notes are posted here within a few days after. Anyone working on housing in the Evansville area is welcome to attend.
